All of the slags and impurities of the steel are burned off and folded forged to an un compromised strength with a sharp cutting edge. The final carbon content is 1% and the hardness is HRC 58. Water quenching produces a tough edge. The more rapidly a blade cools down, the harder it becomes. When a hot blade enters the water, the water also gains heat, so the first part of the blade that enters the water will be the hardest. If a blade has any flaws from forging, it will break immediately during the quenching process. Full Tang Full tang means that the sword is one complete piece of metal. Even the strongest partial tang is easier to break than a full tang. Full tang provides much more resistance when cutting because the point of the fixture between the blade and the handle isn’t interrupted.
